BLEPHAROSPLASTY SURGERY BY SHAHIN FAZILAT, MD CAN REMOVE YEARS FROM YOUR EYELIDS
A Blepharosplasty, also known as eyelid surgery or eye lift surgery is a cosmetic plastic surgery procedure performed by Dr. Fazilat. This procedure enhances the appearance of puffy, sagging or tired-looking eyes.
As you age, your eyelid stretches, muscles weaken, and fat accumulates around your eyes, which causes “bags” or excess skin to become prominent. Blepharosplasty or eyelid surgery can be performed for cosmetic reasons or to improve sight by lifting droopy eyelids out of your field of vision.
Blepharosplasty or eye lift surgery is the most effective for patients who want to correct:
- Wrinkly eyelids with sagging skin
- Hooded, hanging upper eyelids
- Puffy bags around your eyes
- Dark circles around your eyes
During your initial Blepharosplasty or eyelid surgery consultation with Dr. Fazilat, he will discuss the options and alternatives in great detail, providing you with all the information you need to make an informed decision about a Blepharosplasty or eyelid surgery procedure.
The site of the incisions will also be discussed prior to your surgery; they’re typically made in inconspicuous places such as along the natural crease of your upper lids and below your lash line so that your lower lids, excess fat and skin can be removed and muscles can be tightened.
Our Cosmetic Consultant can provide you with information on pre-operative Blepharosplasty or eyelid surgery care, recovery, local accommodations, and answer any other questions related to your procedure and stay in the San Jose / Cupertino / Palo Alto / Mountain View, CA area. If you are traveling from outside the US, we highly recommend that you purchase travel insurance.
Once you have booked your Blepharosplasty or eyelid surgery, Dr. Fazilat’s office will coordinate the location and time of your Blepharosplasty or eyelid surgery. You will receive a pre-operative appointment, which is typically two weeks before your surgery. During this appointment, you will be given instructions for your surgery, as well as any medical request forms for necessary blood work or related medical tests. Dr. Fazilat will also take any pre-operative photos and review your planned procedure(s) so you can ask any final questions. Our office will contact you by phone or by email to review your instructions and your health history.
After your pre-operative appointment, if you have any questions regarding your instructions, you can contact our office by phone or email us at any time. General Surgery instructions can also be found in Patient Resources of our website and you can download these Blepharoplasty Post-Op Instructions (PDF).
About The Operation
Typically, Blepharosplasty or eyelift surgery is performed as an out-patient procedure under general or local anesthesia with a certified anesthesiologist; surgical times are typically under 1 hour.
The Blepharosplasty or eyelid surgery is a cosmetic procedure performed to improve sight by lifting droopy eyelids out of your field of vision. During the procedure, an incision is made along the natural crease of your upper lids and below the lash line of your lower lids so that excess fat and skin can be removed and muscles can be tightened.
Some of Dr. Fazilat’s patients also have their Blepharosplasty or eyelid surgery combined with other procedures, such as a face lift/neck lift, chin liposuction, a brow lift/forehead lift, fat injections, or BOTOX®/Dysport treatments and other types of fillers to make your facial features look younger than ever.
After Blepharosplasty or eyelid surgery, patients are encouraged to walk that evening to prevent possible blood clots. Blepharosplasty or eyelift surgery patients can typically return to work within 2 to 3 days. The majority of swelling and bruising will dissipate by the end of the first week, though strenuous activity should be avoided for 1 week. Patients should also have an adult stay with them for 24 hours following the surgery to monitor their recovery. Scars from Blepharosplasty or eyelid surgery incisions begin to fade in a few months, but camouflage cosmetics can be used to minimize the effects of bruising.
Dr. Fazilat will schedule a follow-up post-recovery office visit to discuss your progress.
